Ocracoke Island, It can only be reached by ferry and is comprised mostly of endless beautiful
Kill Devil Hills around milepost 16 in Hags Head. hang gliding, walk down the hill from the gliders to get
some good shots as they travel into the air. great for sunset shots across the sound toward the Manteo.
Wright Brother's Memorial Park up 58 in Kitty Hawk
Duck/Corolla along has ponies and the Currituck Lighthouse best in the morning.
Jockey's Ridge has hang gliding from the dunes.
Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo. Lots of good lizards. Scarborough Inn good place to stay.
Noc Nantahala Outdoor Center take route 40 you go into Bryson city also a steam engine train runs
passengers though out the area.
Brevard many waterfalls. Some require a short 1 miles hikes, High Falls, Triple Falls, Courthouse Falls,
Bridal Falls, Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock, Connestee Falls, Rainbow Falls, TurtleBack Falls. Several

Lower Cullasaja Falls on US 64 West between Highlands and Franklin. About a 250 feet falls into the Cullasaja
Gorge
Dry Falls or Cullasaja Falls, off US 64 West.. You can walk under the falls but you will get a little wet
from the spray. The view of the falls as it drops into the rugged rocks of the wild Cullasaja River is awesome
DuPont State Forest by Hendersonville has three waterfalls to get there from Hendersonville's historic Main
Street, take Kanuga Road, which turns into Crab Creek Road. From there signs will direct you to DuPont State
Forest. Park at the Hooker Falls parking area. And take the hiking trails to Hooker Falls, Triple Falls and
High Falls, all within easy walking distance of each other.
Whitewater Falls east on US 64 and south of Saphire
Symmes Chapel in Greenville.
Linville Gorge is beautiful, you can hike to the Linville Falls Upper and Lower Views. Also Duggers Falls just
as you drive into the parking area for Linville Falls, there is a trail on the left that leads back to Duggers
Falls waterfall. Don’t forget Wiseman's View which overlooks the gorge.
Chimney Rock go up and you can see for miles!! Take the hike to waterfall that was in the movie "The Last of
the Mohicans
Lake Lure further east on US 64 past Chimney Rock is where the movie "Dirty Dancing" was filmed, The huge
boulders in the river make some great photographs.
Blue Ridge Parkway - both for sunrise and sunset is Waterrock Knob at milepost 451, Cowee Mountain Overlook at milepost 430.7. Also
Craggy Gardens visitor center for sunset. There are some nice spots around Mt. Pisgah (milepost 410) overlooks and pull off on the side of the road. Price Lake has some nice places for photos. Thunder Hill Overlook
Grandfather Mountain Great Smoky Mountain National Park (NC/TN)
Transylvania County & Pisgah National Forest for waterfalls
Duke Gardens in Durham
University of North Carolina Arboretum in Chapel Hill
Magic Wings Butterfly House at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science in Durham
Wilmington and Wrightsville Beaches
Bald Head Island. You will have to take a ferry
Orton Plantation Wilmington
Fort Fisher is just outside Wilmington.
Tail of the Dragon scenic drive off US 129 and the Cherohala Skyway.
Fontana lake, great locations for sunrise/sunset and the area also has lodging.
Greenbrier area in Great Smoky Mountains.
Manteo downtown has some nice scenes, especially when there are boats in the harbor.
Mingo Falls
Deep Creek area just outside Bryson City has many trails. Take the waterfall trail.
Fall Colors Peak Late October to early November
Take the Blue Ridge Parkway that winds along the mountain top for 250 miles from the Virginia to the Great
Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee.
Take US 64 from Brevard to Franklin, then US 276 through the Pisgah National Forest from Brevard and Waynesville.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park has great fall color,. Take Clingmans Dome Road, Newfound Gap Road,
Lakeshore Drive from Bryson City to Noland Creek, Round Bottom Road beginning at the Balsom Mountain Picnic
area, and I-40 around the eastern end of the park, from Highway 276 north to the Foothills Parkway.
